Dr. Abby Cusack, DVM
Imaging & Anesthesia
In January 2025, Dr. Abby Cusack joined VNIoC's imaging and anesthesia team. The Maryland native originally intended to be an elementary teacher, but while at the University of Kansas she had an experience with a foster dog that set her on the road to become a veterinarian. As a result, she transferred to the University of Maryland, where she received her Bachelor’s in Animal Science. She went on to Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating as a member of the Phi Zeta Honor Society.
Having spent several years during veterinary school working at animal hospitals, she transitioned after graduation to work as an associate veterinarian at a high-volume, multi-doctor general practice in Baltimore. From her experience in referring to specialists, she found she was drawn to neurology and anesthesiology. “The second I saw the job posting for VNIoC, I knew I had to apply,” she explains. “I couldn’t have found a more welcoming team. We’re exposed to some much knowledge and expertise on a daily basis. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
Dr. Cusack enjoys spending her free time with her fiancé, Matt (they plan to marry in 2026) and family and friends. They have a mixed breed rescue dog and three cats, two of whom are three-legged. Dr. Cusack also collects indoor plants–currently more than 150 types!
